Dr. Chung-Ming Kuan, Prisident of NTU, Dr. Chia-Pei Chou, Executive Vice President of NTU, Dr. Huu-Sheng Lur, Dean of College of Bioresource and Agriculture, Head of the Affiliated Experimental Farm, Dr. Min-Hsiung Pan, many faculty members, donors, alumni and students attended this interesting and meaningful activity.

NTU Experimental Farm has a long history and it has had a great impact on Taiwan's agriculture industry. Many students have learned about crops and field management at the experimental farm. The Laboratory of the Pon-Lai rice breeder Dr. Eikichi Iso, which is a part of the Workshop of Advanced Academy of Agronomy and Forestry, is also located on the farm. "The era of smart farming is almost here!” exclaimed Dr. Huu-Sheng Lur. Many hi-tech instruments like plant growth monitoring sensors and unmanned aerial vehicles have been used to optimize human resources required in crop production. Several crop growth simulation models and artificial intelligence methods have also been developed to predict crop growth and yield under various climate and field management conditions. Incorporating these modern technologies into the agriculture industry is an important but challenging task for us. At this critical time point, the Department of Agronomy and the NTU Experimental Farm play a key role in agricultural research and education. We need to teach our students how to apply these new technologies to improve the quantity and quality of crops. Then our students can further bring Taiwanese agriculture to a bright future.

It was the first time that NTU invited the donors to join the rice planting activity.

Transplanting rice on the NTU campus was an unforgettable and valuable experience for all participants. A time-lapse video, including this transplanting activity, will be made to record the rice growth. After harvesting the planted rice, the video will be sent to the donors to acknowledge their great contribution to NTU and Taiwanese agriculture.
