NTU Highland Experimental Farm assistaed Ministry of Transportation and Communicationss with Slope Ecological Restortation and Environmental Education

To restore local landscape and ecological system, and provide environmental education, Highland Experimental Farm, NTU assisted the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC with slope ecological restoration on Highway 14A. Artifical vegetative propagation, which was a efficient method of slope ecological restoration, was chosen.

One of the area after restoration.

Native plants were used in the ecological restoration in order to combining local landscape and ecosystem. In addition, the environmental education program was involved in this project, such as exhibition boards. Mountain tourists might understand and protect valuable ecological resources after learning about alpine ecology and environmental knowlodge.

The Fourth Maintenance Office, MOTC was inspecting.

Plants and seeds that collected from different areas of Hehuan Mountain were used in the reproduection in order to increase geneitc diversity. In the process of plants nurturing, the NTU team took advantage of temperature changes between Chun-Yang Farm(1,200 meters above sea level) and Mei-Feng Farm(2,100 meters above sea level) to improve the reproduction.

The team were planting at Hehuan Mountain.

The project was divided into 3 phases. The first two phases were finished by June 2021 with 16,789 native plants, including Lilium formosanum Wallace, Polygonum cuspidatum Sieb.& Zucc., Artemisia oligocarpa Hayata, Sedum morrisonense Hayata, Erigeron morrisonensis Hayata, Carex satsumensis Franch. & Sav., Rhododendron rubropilosum Hayata, Rosa transmorrisonensis Hayata etc.
